Over the last 15 years, global clothing firms in the United States and Europe have greatly increased their imports from Bangladesh. International fashion brands and retailers and many more, are not only increasingly relying on the RMG industry in Bangladesh, but they have also set up liaison offices in this country. While the main function of these liaison offices is to manage the relationship with the RMG producing firms in Bangladesh, they are also responsible for ensuring that their suppliers enforce workplace regulations that are acceptable to western consumers (Kolk and Van Tulder 2002). Consequently, socially responsible practices and auditing procedures are vital for the RMG industry in Bangladesh.
